Greetings,

I have used Amazon to purchase goods, most recently, last week. In general,
as a consumer, I have found Amazon's site to be comprehensive, pleasant to
use, and very attentive to me, the customer.

However, I strongly disapprove of Amazon.COM's patent infringement lawsuit
against Barnes and Noble. I also don't believe the U.S. Patent Office acted
appropriately in issuing Patent #5,960,411. By granting this patent, the
patent office has permitted Amazon.COM to exercise control over a simple and
obvious technique, one that does not, in my view, represent anything new or
innovative enough to warrant a patent.

Unfortunately, I cannot, at present, boycott the patent office. I can,
however boycott Amazon.COM, to protest Amazon.COM's attempt to enforce this
patent.

To that end, I'm afraid I will no longer be shopping with Amazon.COM. I
request that you disable my account and remove all credit card and shipping
records associated with it. My ID is "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX". If you require
voice confirmation of this request, please call me at XXX-XXX-XXXX.

Please note that this action has nothing to do with my shopping experience
on Amazon.COM. I would gladly continue to make purchases through
Amazon.COM, if the company were not, in my view, stifling free trade by
attempting to enforce a patent that should never have been issued in the
first place.

A formerly satisfied customer,

Brian Clapper, <...>
