Installing the jEdit Emacs Emulation Package

  1. Unzip the jedit-emacs-macros-1.0.zip file. You'll get an Emacs directory.
  2. Copy the contents of Emacs/startup subdirectory to your .jedit/startup directory (which is typically under your home directory).
  3. Create a .jedit/macros/Emacs directory.
  4. Copy the contents of the unpacked Emacs directory (i.e., the .bsh files and the shortcut.properties file) to the directory you created in Step 3.
  5. Fire up jEdit. It should find the newly-installed Emacs macros and automatically create key bindings based on the contents of the shortcut.properties file.

Warning: Some of these macros rely on jEdit features that aren't present in versions of jEdit prior to 4.3.
